Schweitzer Michi-Ghana Student Research Grant

The Family Health Medical School and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan are pleased to announce that the Schweitzer Michi-Ghana Student Research Grant is now accepting applications.

This fund was established in 2022 with the generous support of Elaine Schweitzer. The goal of this award is to support student research projects that focus on women’s and/or children’s health.


After completion of their research, grant recipients will receive mentorship to present an abstract with their research findings at a conference and submit a manuscript for publication. The top five student proposals will be selected, with each grant up to $2,500 USD. Proposals will be evaluated by a panel from Family Health Medical School and the University of Michigan, based on the following criteria:
Scientific merit and study design
Significance of project
Feasibility of project
Personal interest in, and commitment to, research

Application Requirements:
Applicants must be a student (medical, nursing or midwifery) at Family Health Medical School (any year)
Proposed research must a student-led project from conceptualization
Proposed research must focus on women’s and/or children’s health
Each application must have a faculty advisor

A Complete Application Consists of:

Application form, including research proposal questions and budget.

Letter from a faculty advisor stating they have reviewed and agree with the proposal and will serve as faculty advisor throughout the study’s duration.

Awardees will be announced by: 1st July, 2024
