LUNCH WITH THE FOUNDERS: BUILDING BONDS AND FOSTERING COMMUNITY AT FHUC
The founders of Family Health University College (FHUC), Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume and Dr. Susu Bridget Kwawukume, along with the institution’s registry and faculty members, recently interacted with all medical students of FHUC. The event, titled ‘Lunch with the Founders,’ aimed to build and strengthen bonds and foster a collaborative community.
Designed as part of the University College’s effort to bridge communication gaps between Management, faculty, staff, students, and the entire community, the event also served as a platform for students to voice their challenges and concerns regarding academics, residential life, and other related matters.
Addressing the students, the Founder and President of FHUC, Prof. Kwawukume, emphasized the importance of cultivating a pleasant and inclusive learning environment that encourages students and enhances their performance, thereby creating an enriching experience for everyone on campus. He assured the students that all concerns raised regarding their academics and residential challenges would be addressed promptly.
Other Faculty members encouraged students to take advantage of their readiness to help them navigate academic challenges by providing mentoring and positive interactions to facilitate academic excellence.
According to the Registrar of FHUC, Mrs. Rita Kaine, such student engagement can lead to better physical and mental outcomes and create a sense of belonging and connection with Faculty, staff, peers, and the entire community. This, she added, is more likely to lead to academic success.
The Family Health Medical School is accredited by the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Each year, the Medical School admits candidates at two levels: the Undergraduate Medical Programme and the Graduate Entry Medical Programme (GEMP).
For undergraduate applicants, it is a six-year medical programme with entry at Level 100, leading to a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree. For graduate applicants with a first degree in a science-related field, it is a four-and-a-half-year Bachelor of Surgery degree (GEMP) with entry at Level 300.
